Finally got my Doomfist sketch completed!  I thought it’d be fun to draw another Overwatch character, and my son currently loves playing Doomfist, so that’s why I drew him.

I based this drawing off a fairly common Doomfist pose. Also, I added in the skin tone digitally afterwards, because I find that darker skin tones are hard to make nice and even using pencil.

Here’s how it looked before adding in the skin tone digitally.

Not sure what my next sketch will be, but I’m going to be crazy busy the next week and a half, but I hope to at least have one more sketch up this month.

By the way, Overwatch has a special anniversary event going on right now.  It lets you play special events that you can’t normally play any time of the year.  A couple days ago we played the Halloween Junkenstein one, which is so fun!  Yesterday it was Mei’s snowball thing, which we didn’t bother with.  Maybe today there’ll be something good.

Until next time!  Keep practicing!

One of my recent sketches was of Soldier 76 from Overwatch.  I mostly drew him because he looks cool and I like his hair,  I don’t really play him on Overwatch (although I haven’t played at all in quite a while), but I think I may have played him during a special event.

I used a reference image from the Overwatch Wiki, so I didn’t actually design this myself, I pretty much tried to make it look as much like the reference image as possible.  I plan on using reference photos to help me with my sketches, but I also need to practice drawing people / faces / poses out of my head.

Until next time!

I have finally started the new phase of my art journey, where I focus on character design and drawing people!  I am super excited about this, because drawing people is what really got me back into art around a decade ago, and I think it’s what I will be the most happy working on.

Here are three sketches I made this week:

A sketch of a girl in a touque.  I used a reference photo from https://www.instagram.com/portraittpage/

My first sketch of Mercy from Overwatch!  The reference photo I used is a pretty common image of her. Mercy’s real name is Angela Ziegler, hence the blog post title.

Since the Olympics are currently on, I decided to draw an Olympian.  This is the American snowboarder, Shaun White.  I used a reference photo from a BBC article about him.

I’ll probably stick to drawing Olympians for now, because it’s a good opportunity to draw people in uncommon positions.

That is for now!  More sketches coming soon!
